Google Business Profile suspended? What to do next
Google suspends a Business Profile when it thinks the profile breaks its rules. Some suspensions only stop you editing the profile. Others remove it from Google Maps. This page shows how to find the cause and ask Google to review it.
Common reasons for a suspension
- Extra keywords in the business name, like “Best Plumber Downtown”
- An address you don’t really work from, such as a virtual office or PO box
- Showing a home address when customers don’t visit you there
- More than one profile for the same business
- Bought reviews, or reviews given in return for a discount
- Many big changes at once, like a new name, address and category on the same day
What to do, step by step
- Read the notice. Your profile dashboard says the profile is suspended and may give a reason.
- Fix the cause first. Remove keywords from the name, correct the address or hide it, and close any duplicate profiles.
- Gather proof. Photos of your sign and premises, a business licence or registration, and a utility bill or bank statement with your business name and address.
- Send one appeal. Use the option to request a review in your dashboard, and attach your proof.
- Wait, and don’t edit. Changes while the appeal is open can slow it down.
How to avoid it next time
Use your real business name and real address, keep one profile per location, and get reviews only by asking real customers. Make big changes one at a time. Our Google Maps guide covers what helps a profile rank.
Questions owners ask
Should I make a new profile instead?
No. A second profile for the same business breaks Google’s rules and can make things worse. Fix the one you have and appeal.
How long does an appeal take?
It varies. Some are answered in days, others take weeks. Sending more appeals doesn’t make it faster.
Can anyone promise to get my profile back?
No. Google makes the decision. What you can control is fixing the cause and sending clear evidence.
